The American Journalism Project aims to address the critical decline of local news in Northeast Florida, where gaps in original reporting hinder civic engagement and community representation. Through a comprehensive research and analysis initiative, we will assess the current news landscape, gather direct feedback from residents, and identify information gaps. Activities will include community listening sessions, stakeholder interviews, and an information landscape analysis, culminating in a detailed report and strategic program recommendations to enhance the local media ecosystem. Deliverables will include a comprehensive research report, vetted philanthropic opportunities, and a program concept to support local journalism. This project is expected to foster a robust local news ecosystem, empower community engagement, and strengthen democracy in Northeast Florida.
