The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations (“Foundations,” “we,” “us” or “our”) are committed to protecting your privacy. The Privacy Policy (“Policy”) below is applicable to and our portal (“Sites”) and describes how personal information is collected, used and disclosed. The practices described in this Policy apply only to information gathered online at our Sites. They do not apply to information that you submit to us offline or to websites maintained by other organizations to which we may link.

Please read this Policy carefully before using the Sites. By using these Sites, you agree to the collection and use of personal information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree to this Policy for any reason, please do not use the Sites.

Information We Collect:
When you visit our Sites, we may ask you for personal information such as your name and e-mail address. In addition, our Sites use the Google Analytics web analytics service. Information recorded by Analytics includes information such as how you arrived at our Sites (including the URL you came from, if you arrived from another site), your network name, your browser type, which type of Internet browsing device you are using, the country, state, and city where your server is located, and the pages that were viewed during your visit to our Sites.

We do not and will not merge any personally-identifiable information with non-personally identifiable information previously collected unless you have been given notice of and have given prior affirmative (i.e. opt-in) consent to that merger. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to these Sites is restricted by the Google Privacy Policy. To provide visitors more choice on how their data is collected by Google Analytics, Google has developed an Opt-out Browser add-on, which is available by visiting Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, to enable you to opt-out of Google’s programs.

How We Collect Information:
We collect information you provide to us directly by filling in forms (such as grant applications), or by corresponding with us through the Sites and by email. This includes personal data you provide (1) when you send an email inquiry to the Foundations, (2) when you sign up to receive email newsletters from us, or (3) in connection with grant applications or awards. We may also receive personal data about you from third parties and other sources such as our grantee organizations. For example, we may receive your personal data if someone at your organization designates you as a contact person for that organization or includes information about you in a grant application.

How We Use Your Information:
We may use the information we collect to: (1) Communicate with you, including to respond to your inquiries; (2) Provide, maintain, and improve the Sites, including research and analytics regarding users of the Sites and usage patterns; (3) Process grant applications and manage grants; (4) Send you email newsletters, mailings, and other information about programs, grants, and initiatives; (4) Notify you about changes to the Sites or the Policy; and (5) Administer and protect the Sites, including to detect, investigate, and prevent activities that may violate our policies or be illegal.

We process personal data on the following legal bases:  (1) where you have given us your consent; (2) as necessary to perform our agreements; (3) as necessary to comply with legal obligations to which we are subject; and/or (4) as necessary for our legitimate interests in providing services where those interests do not override your fundamental rights and freedom related to data privacy.

We will only use your personal data for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably determine that we need to use it for another reason that is compatible with the original purpose(s) and/or as required or permitted by law. If we need to use your personal data for an unrelated purpose, we will notify you and explain the legal basis which allows us to do so.

Finally, we do not sell or rent personal information to others. We use your information only for the limited purposes of sending you updates and useful information about our programs, promotional information, enhancing the site operation, for statistical purposes, and for overall systems administration.

Data Security:
No data transmission over the internet can be 100 percent secure; therefore, the Foundations cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information submitted on or to the Sites. Nevertheless, we have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, accessed in an unauthorized way, altered, or disclosed.  In addition, we limit access to your personal data to those employees, agents, and third-party service providers who need to know that information in order to provide services to us and yourself.

Data Retention:
The Foundations retain your personal data for as long as is necessary for our legitimate purposes, in accordance with our retention policies and in accordance with applicable laws.
