Polarized campuses and widespread student self-censorship threaten core values of liberal arts education. Sway, a discussion platform powered by fine-tuned AI models, fosters constructive disagreement by guiding conversations, encouraging charitable rephrasings, and helping students understand opposing viewpoints. Heterodox Academy (HxA) seeks support to scale Sway across higher education as part of its mission to promote open inquiry and viewpoint diversity. Project activities include (1) providing Sway to 10,000+ students at dozens of institutions; (2) improving accessibility via mobile app development and UI/UX enhancements; (3) conducting empirical research on depolarization and communication efficacy; and (4) disseminating best practices for use in classroom and co-curricular settings. Deliverables include the mobile app, research publications, expanded usage data, and broad dissemination among HxA campus communities.
