The Collaborative for Campus Dialogue (CCD), led by Vanderbilt University, addresses the critical need for higher education leadership in fostering civil discourse on our campuses, and by extension, the society at large. This initiative seeks to build a cross-institutional network dedicated to embedding effective civil discourse practices across diverse campuses. In its initial phase, CCD will recruit 10 institutions to form a working group with a small steering committee, design an online platform for the CCD toolkit, establish a shared evaluation framework, present model programs at national conferences, lead outreach efforts, and convene a national summit for higher education leaders so as to expand the network of member campuses. The goal is to accelerate the uptake and spread of effective civil discourse programming nationally while restoring trust in the ability of higher education institutions to prepare students for the habits and responsibilities of democratic citizenship.
