This $400,000, one-year proposal aims to establish a formal philanthropic partnership between the Rita & Alex Hillman Foundation and the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations (AVDF) to support the Hillman Serious Illness and End of Life Emergent Innovation (HSEI) program. This successful program, launched by the Hillman Foundation in 2018, has supported 10 nursing-driven efforts to improve the care of vulnerable populations at the end of life. The partnership would leverage a $500,000 investment to date ($250,000/annually) from the Hillman Foundation. A proposed $400,000 award from AVDF would increase the 2021 HSEI program to $650,000. Doing so would maximize the impact of two individual foundations to collaboratively grow at least seven more leaders and innovative research to raise awareness, seed the field, and inspire collaborations among grantees.
