In July of 2020, American Experience premiered The Vote, a two-part series that tells the story of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote.

The producers had planned to hold a series of in-person events on college campuses across the country to engage students in discussion about this pivotal historical event. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, WGBH decided to hold two virtual screenings for college students in April. Screenings on Zoom were followed by a discussion with producers and guest historians.

The screenings, which occurred on April 28 and April 29, drew hundreds of students and faculty, who engaged in extended discussion about the work of the suffragists as well as tensions within the movement over issues of racial inclusion.

The Vote premiered on PBS on July 6 & 7, 2020.
