For many years, California-based broadcast and digital media company Closer to Truth has successfully enabled a broad audience of viewers to learn how leading scientists and other thinkers are addressing some of history’s most enduring questions. Closer to Truth episodes air weekly on more than 200 PBS and high-quality public television stations in the U.S., and its YouTube videos attract more than a million views each month. The organization’s unique focus, combined with its impressive reach, means that viewers anywhere can tune in or log on to watch deep but accessible discussions of important scientific, philosophical, and religious questions.

With the support of a $325,000 grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations, Closer to Truth will produce a series of television episodes and web videos that focus on how several Eastern religious traditions address various fundamental questions. The series will feature experts from around the world discussing the ways in which Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism, and Hinduism approach a range of topics, such as ultimate reality, the nature and existence of God or of multiple deities, death and immortality, morality and virtue, and the nature of human minds.

The television series, which will consist of at least four episodes, will be broadcast in early 2023, and made available on Youtube in late 2023. Closer to Truth will also upload more than one hundred related videos to its website and Youtube channel throughout 2023.

The project should enable curious viewers around the world to increase their understanding of the ways in which a variety of non-Western religions address issues of ultimate concern.
