Research shows that a liberal arts education equips students with the skills that employers deem critical for career success. Yet today many are questioning the value of such education. Students are increasingly choosing to pursue vocationally focused majors in fields such as business and health, rather than experiencing the broad and deep education that a liberal arts curriculum provides. Vocationally focused programs often fail to teach students essential skills that are typical of a liberal arts education including effective communication and analytical problem-solving. By providing students with facilities across many disciplines, a liberal arts education equips students with practical skills that prepare them for the challenges they will face as future leaders.

To help students and parents more deeply appreciate the wide-ranging benefits of a liberal arts education, New York Times bestselling author and leading podcast host, Kelly Corrigan, has launched the Live from College podcast and radio series in September.

As part of the series, Corrigan visits higher education institutions across the U.S. to sit in on classes, talk with students, and engage with professors. Corrigan invites listeners to join her for the college tour as she makes stops at schools including Yale University, the University of Notre Dame, and Georgetown University. The episodes provide listeners with an in-depth look at the liberal arts through engaging conversation with faculty and students.

The AVDF-funded series features a variety of leading educators including Columbia University Professor and Teagle Foundation President Andrew Delbanco, Santa Barbara City College Professor Dr. Clara Oropeza, and Montana State University President Dr. Waded Cruzado.

The Live from College series is part of the Kelly Corrigan Wonders podcast and radio show.  The series is available on all major podcast platforms. For more information and to listen to full episodes, click here.
