California State University, Bakersfield will develop “Dialogues Across Difference in Action: Campus Microgrants for Religious Literacy and Interfaith Engagement,” a two-year initiative that will expand opportunities for interfaith dialogue and religious literacy across the 22-campus CSU system. Through a microgrant program, student organizations and faculty advisors will receive funding to create campus events tailored to the lived experiences of their communities. In preparation, awardees will also complete an online certificate in interfaith leadership and take part in a virtual systemwide symposium to exchange ideas and best practices. Outcomes will include at least twenty funded campus initiatives reaching a combined 500 unique participants, a centralized resource database in our learning management system, and interfaith leadership certification for more than fifty participants. The aim is to connect local student and faculty efforts, which are often siloed or disconnected, with the broader dialogues of interfaith engagement. The university believes this initiative will empower student leaders and faculty mentors with tools, training, and peer networks, positioning each CSU campus as a vibrant center of interfaith collaboration and meaningful worldview exchange.
