Student Veterans of America (SVA) will launch the Veterans Leadership Advancement at Private Institutions (VLAPI) pilot. This 12-month initiative will enhance student veteran success at five private colleges; Tulane University in Louisiana, George Washington University in Washington, D.C., University of Southern California in California, Syracuse University in New York, and St. Edward’s University in Texas. This will be done through peer-led leadership development, faculty and staff workshops, and tailored resource navigation hubs. While private institutions offer rich academic opportunities, veterans often face unique barriers, including financial gaps, cultural disconnects, and limited support services. VLAPI directly addresses these challenges by equipping campuses to be more veteran-inclusive and empowering student veterans (45% of whom are first-generation, 35% students of color, and 15% women) to thrive. The pilot will engage at least 200 student veterans and 50 faculty/staff, with measurable outcomes and toolkits for replication.
