The Windrider Institute will develop and test film events as a tool to be used by organizations on campuses in helping students bridge religious differences. By curating films as a starting point to open conversations across differences, Windrider will explore cinema’s ability to act as both a mirror (reflecting one’s own experiences) and a bridge (connecting to the lived experiences of others). Windrider will partner with organizations that have experience hosting events and/or in interfaith bridge building, such as Hillel International (Jewish), Neighborly Faith (evangelical Christian) and Consortium of Christian Study Centers (Christian). Working with these groups, Windrider will train on-campus leaders to host Bridge-Building film gatherings, reaching approximately 600 – 800 students. Alongside the Windrider programming, Lynch Research Associates (LRA) will conduct research and evaluation to provide an empirical understanding of whether and how the Windrider model for bridge-building – using hyper-curated films and guided dialogue – supports the development of empathy, compassion, and openness to diverse perspectives among college students. The initiative will fill a gap in evidence around the impact of narrative as a means for improving sentiment.
