Produced by WGBH, The Vote is a two-part, four-hour miniseries that tells the dramatic culmination story of the struggle to grant women the right to vote in the United States. From 1909 to 1920, the suffragist movement forced upon the American people contentious questions about the most effective methods for affecting social change, about the roles of women in American culture and society, and about the definitions of citizenship and democracy in the United States. The Vote explores how and why millions of 20th-century Americans mobilized for or against a woman’s right to vote, bringing to life the deep, animating controversies — over gender roles, over race, over the methods and means for social change — that divided the American population in the decade leading up to the passage of the 19th Amendment on August 26, 1920.

The Vote premiered on American Experience on July 6-7, 2020.
