Report for America, an initiative of the The GroundTruth Project and an AVDF-funded program, addresses the severe depletion of local news resulting in decreased reporting of under-covered topics and communities. The program places emerging journalists in local newsrooms across the United States to fill critical gaps by bringing diverse perspectives to the newsroom and allowing news outlets to cover subjects and communities often overlooked.
Recently, more than 250 journalists from across the country attended the Report for America National Gathering at Loyola University Chicago for key training workshops and to build connections. Keynote speaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa of Futuro Media, shared her experience as a Latina reporter and expressed the correlation between the future of democracy and the role of “journalists of conscience.” To learn more and view a short highlight video from the gathering, click HERE.
